In *Notes towards a Critique of Money* brengt voormalig onderzoeker Theorie
Georgios Papadopoulos theorieën over geld, psychoanalyse en visuele cultuur
samen.

*Aesthetics and politics*
*Ladoni (1993) by Artur Aristakisyan*

*Nikolaus Gansterer*
*Drawing a hypothesis. Figures of thought (2011)*
*— boekpresentatie*
*— KNAW, Amsterdam, NL*
Simona Koch
verzorgde het prachtige ontwerp.

*Aesthetics and politics*
*Ladoni (1993) by Artur Aristakisyan*
— screening organised by Mariagiovanni Nuzzi
— Filmtheater Lumière, Maastricht, NL
In the framework of the collective research project Aesthetics and politics,
film theatre Lumière will be hosting a screening of the film *Ladoni [Palms]
*, by Moldavian director Artur Aristakisyan, on Wednesday 12 October.
Between 1986 and 1990, Artur Aristakisyan lived among the down-and-out
homeless of Chisinau, the Moldavian capital, creating an astonishing
portrait of the outcasts who live on the fringes of society and exist at the
seamy side of life. Aristakisyan takes a philosophical, almost spiritual,
view of his subjects, but, by way of rationalising, he likens them to Christ
and his disciples, whose outsider status was part of their uniqueness.
Aristakisyan’s sensitive narration is that of a father intoning truths to
his unborn child, while the monochrome photography perfectly captures the
former Soviet city in all its desolate glory.

*Drawing a hypothesis. Figures of thought (2011)*
— book launch
— KNAW, Amsterdam, NL
On 27 October, the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences will host
the book launch of* Drawing a hypothesis*, a new publication by former
researcher Fine Art Nikolaus Gansterer*. *
*Drawing a hypothesis* is an exciting reader on forms of visualisation and
the use of diagrams in contemporary art, science and theory. In exchange
with artists and scientists, Nikolaus Gansterer reveals how drawing figures
become media of research. Diagrams and maps – in itself already a
translation of reality – become a basis for further translations in word and
image – the latter turning out to be one of the most basic instruments for
scientific and artistic practices. Simona Koch took care of the beautiful
design.
