Die 7. Berlin Biennale für zeitgenössische Kunst stellt das in Kooperation
mit dem Hebbel am Ufer - HAU entstandene Theaterprogramm *Theater that acts
*vor. Dieses präsentiert drei Projekte, in denen die Akteurinnen und
Akteure ihre Bedeutung als in der Gesellschaft handelnde Personen
einfordern. Alle Projekte engagieren sich mit performativen Werkzeugen in
konkreten politischen Ereignissen.
TEATR.DOC & JOSEPH-BEUYS-THEATER
*Crisis *(Trilogie, Performance)

Die Moskauer Dokumentartheatergruppen Teatr.doc und Joseph-Beuys-Theater
tun das, was die russischen Medien nicht schaffen – sie reagieren auf
wichtige Ereignisse im Land, auf Fälle, in denen Menschenrechte oder
Demokratie verletzt werden, und organisieren Antworten darauf
(beispielsweise in Form von inszenierten Verfahren). Für die 7. Berlin
Biennale haben sie eine Trilogie mit dem Titel *Crisis *vorbereitet, welche
in aufeinanderfolgenden Episoden gezeigt wird und auf den Kontext Berlin
und Deutschland abgestimmt ist. Die Methode leitet sich aus vorangegangenen
interaktiven Projekten ab, wie etwa *Democracy.doc* oder *A Society
of* *Artists
Anonymous*. Einen Monat vor der Performance probt das Team mit einer
größeren Gruppe in Moskau lebender Deutscher, um sich darauf einstellen zu
können, was von einem deutschen Publikum zu erwarten ist. Die Performances
nehmen sich Themen wie die Präsenz deutscher Soldaten in Afghanistan,
aktuelle Aufstände in Russland und anderen Ländern sowie Fragen zu Geld,
Schulden und finanziellen Verpflichtungen an.

Regie: Georg Genoux, künstlerischer Leiter des Joseph-Beuys-Theaters und
des Teatr.doc, Mikhail Kaluzhsky, Dramatiker, Journalist und Leiter des
Dokumentarprogramms am Joseph-Beuys-Theater, und Arman Bekenov, Psychologe
und Moderator.

Teatr.doc ist eine unabhängige, von mehreren Dramatikern im Jahr 2002
gegründete Theaterkompanie, die die Landschaft des experimentellen Theaters
in Russland maßgeblich beeinflusst hat.

Das Joseph-Beuys-Theater bringt zeitgenössische Kunst und Dokumentartheater
zusammen. Es produziert interaktive Performances und Dokumentarprojekte,
unter anderem über Geschichtsschreibung, individuelles Erinnern und Politik.

Der bekannte ungarische Regisseur Árpád Schilling gab seine Theaterkarriere
im Jahr 2008 auf, um direkt in der heutigen, geteilten ungarischen
Gesellschaft tätig zu werden. Sein Ziel war einfach: Schauspielerinnen und
Schauspielern wieder Bedeutung zu verleihen und zwar  als handelnde und
politische BürgerInnen. Bei Krétakör sind SchauspielerInnen Menschen, die,
ausgerüstet mit der Fähigkeit, gut zu sprechen und vermittelnd aufzutreten,
als aktive Mitglieder der Gesellschaft die „Fassadenkunst“ hinter sich
lassen. Mit einigen KollegInnen verwandelte Schilling Krétakör in ein
Zentrum für zeitgenössische Kunst, eine Produktionsfirma und eine
Anlaufstelle für soziale Erfindungen, wo kreative „Gesellschaftsspiele“ auf
der Basis sozialwissenschaftlicher Forschung präsentiert und entwickelt
werden.
Aktionen von Krétakör waren unter anderem Besuche in Dörfern mit
schwelenden Konflikten zwischen Roma und Nicht-Roma sowie die Organisation
von Bühnenabenden für die Dorfgemeinschaft. Krétakör macht diesen
erzieherischen Akt sexy und anziehend und lässt daraus eine Kritik an der
Leitung ungarischer Staatstheater werden, welche den Kontakt zur wirklichen
Basis längst verloren haben. Für die 7. Berlin Biennale stellt Krétakör ein
Szenario vor, das sozial und pädagogisch um die immer deutlicher werdende
Teilung der ungarischen Gesellschaft kreist. Ziel dabei ist, die
nationalistischen Argumentationsstrategie zu domestizieren und diese auf
einen fortschrittlichen Weg zu führen; eine kritische Untersuchung der
inländischen liberalen und/oder linken Überzeugungen anzubieten; die
nationale Identität in die europäischen Gemeinschaft einzubinden;
Innovationsprozesse in kleinen Gemeinden voranzubringen; demokratische, auf
Wettbewerb angelegte Situationen zu praktizieren; sowie ein soziales Forum
und aufregendes kreatives „Gesellschaftsspiel“ zu kreieren.

Diese Theatersituation ist initiiert von Árpád Schilling, Márton Gulyás und
Péter Fancsikai.

haben. Um unseren Weg nach vorn zu gehen, schauen wir zurück in die
Vergangenheit, in eine imaginierte Welt von Migration, politischer und
geografischer Dislozierung, und lösen die Realität, wie wir sie kannten,
auf. Aus unserer Vorstellungskraft heraus können wir gemeinsam eine neue
Realität schaffen. Das JRMiP lädt Sie dazu ein, gemeinsam mit uns
nachzudenken und zu diskutieren.

that acts* presents three performative projects, which bring back the
meaning of the actor as somebody who acts in society: the documentary
theaters Teatr.doc and Joseph Beuys Theater from Moscow, art center
Krétakör from Budapest, and the First International Congress of the Jewish
Renaissance Movement in Poland (JRMiP), initiated by Israeli-born artist
Yael Bartana. All projects engage in concrete political issues through the
use of performative tools.

Moscow-based documentary theater groups Teatr.doc and Joseph Beuys Theater
do what the Russian media fail to do—react to important incidents in the
country, when democratic or human rights are violated, and organize
responses to them (in the form of staged trials, for example). For the 7th
Berlin Biennale they prepare a trilogy entitled *Crisis*, which can be seen
in consecutive episodes, and is developed for the German and Berlin
context. The method derives from several previous interactive projects such
as *Democracy.doc *or *A Society of Artists Anonymous*. One month before
the performances, the team rehearses with a large group of Germans living
in Moscow in order to acquaint themselves with what can be expected from
the German audience. The performances touch on issues such as the presence
of German soldiers in Afghanistan, contemporary uprisings in Russia and
abroad, or questions of money, debt, and financial ties.

Directed by: Georg Genoux, artistic director of Joseph Beuys Theater and
Teatr.doc; Mikhail Kaluzhsky, playwright, journalist, and supervisor of
documentary programs at Joseph Beuys Theater ; and Arman Bekenov,
psychologist and moderator.

Teatr.doc is an independent theater company formed by several playwrights
in 2002, which has greatly impacted the landscape of experimental theater
in Russia.

Joseph Beuys Theater is engaged in bridging contemporary art and
documentary theater. It produces interactive performances and documentary
projects on the issues of history, individual memory, and politics, among
others.

Acclaimed Hungarian director Árpád Schilling abandoned his theater career
in 2008 in order to act directly in today’s divided society in Hungary. His
aim was simple: to bring back the meaning of the actor as somebody who acts
as a citizen and a political subject, equipped as a good speaker, mediator,
and active member of society who abandons “façade art.” Together with a few
colleagues, he turned Krétakör into a center for contemporary art, a
production company, and a hub for social interventions, which develops and
presents creative community games based on the findings of the social
sciences. For example, actions have included going to villages where the
conflict between Roma and non-Roma inhabitants is tense and
organizing staged evenings for the community. Krétakör makes this
educational approach sexy and appealing, a critique of the policy of
Hungarian state theaters, which have lost contact with the real base. For
the 7th Berlin Biennale Krétakör proposes a social and pedagogical
situation built around the division more and more present in the Hungarian
society. They aim to domesticate nationalist argumentation and put it on a
progressive track; offer a critical examination of domestic liberal and/or
leftist convictions; contextualize national identity in the European
community; promote innovation in small communities; practice democratic,
competitive situations; and to create a social forum and an exciting
creative community game.

This theater situation is initiated by Árpád Schilling, Márton Gulyás,
and Péter Fancsikai.

Renaissance Movement in Poland (JRMiP) to address and answer these
questions. For three days we will assemble in Berlin to collectively
imagine a new future and to formulate the concrete platform and demands of
the movement. The congress will operate as a symbolic parliament, debating
about one question per day.

The founding wish of the JRMiP is to write new pages into a history that
never quite took the course we wanted. We reach back to the past – to the
imagined world of migration, political and geographical displacement, to
the disintegration of reality, as we knew it – in order to shape our way
forward. Together, we can create a new reality drawing on the strength of
our imagination. The JRMiP invites you to join us as we think and speak
together.
