The Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA) launches the 2012 program to
stimulate curatorial opportunities for students and young professionals:
the *Young Curators Program* and the *Power Corporation of Canada
Curatorial Internships Program*.

The *Young Curators Program* offers the opportunity to propose and curate a
project on the contemporary debate in architecture, urbanism, and landscape
design during a residency of 3 months at the CCA and the *Power Corporation
of Canada Curatorial Internships Program* encourages students and recent
graduates in design disciplines, arts and humanities to become acquainted
with the CCA's collection, exhibition, and research programs through an
internship of 6 to 9 months in Montr?al.

The initiative reinforces the CCA's leadership role in the specialized and
changing field of architectural curatorial practice. By hosting the
Curatorial Opportunities Program for the second year, the CCA is
recognizing curatorial practice as an emerging critical component of the
architectural profession and a complement to academic programs while
reinforcing the skills of the next generation of students. "We are sharing
our expertise, resources and archives with this young generation of
talented graduates who benefit from this unique educational opportunity, as
much as the institution will be inspired by their talent," says *Mirko
Zardini*, Director and Chief Curator of the CCA. Zardini himself was
recently named as a *2012 Game Changer* by Metropolis magazine for his work
on leading a series of groundbreaking and provocative exhibitions that have
set new standards for architectural exhibitions, an approach that has
presented a critical view of the field itself, with a self-analytical
rather than celebratory model of curating architecture.

Last year, the CCA received over 250 international applications in response
to the inaugural open call. *Dan Handel* was the 2011 Young Curator who was
selected for his project entitled "First, the forests" that will be on view
at CCA in fall 2012. Handel's proposal is based on modern forestry's
relationship to architecture and landscape design, and his curatorial
intent is to reintroduce the forest in the design discourse. *Marta
Masferrer Juliol*, an architect and graduate of the Escola Technica
Superior d'Arquitectura de Barcelona and *Cerys Wilson*, a photographer and
a recent Masters graduate of the History of Photography from the University
of St. Andrews, Scotland, were selected as the 2011 Power Corporation of
Canada Curatorial interns. The two were selected based on the originality
of the statement of intent, potential for professional development, and
connection with the curatorial direction and vision of the CCA.

The call for applications for both the Young Curators Program and the Power
Corporation of Canada Curatorial Internships Program will remain open until
27 April 2012, with the residency and internship commencing in the fall
2012.
