Master's Degree in Cultural Policy

The Master's Degree Programme in Cultural Policy at the University of
Jyväskylä is a unique, interdisciplinary programme, conducted fully in
English, providing students with knowledge and critical insights into the
socio-cultural, political, economic and scientific challenges of analyzing
cultural policy and management. Graduates are able to work and participate
in a contemporary world and develop social and cultural institutions and
organizations to meet the questions and demands of the 21st century.
The curriculum scrutinizes theory and practices in cultural policy,
cultural policy actors, instruments and impacts; politics of
participation, access and participation; cultural economy and creative
industries; cultural diversity and citizenship; relationship between art
and technology; and global and transnational cultural policy, geography
and cultural policy.
In addition students can choose to specialize in one of the major subject
areas at the Department of Social Sciences and Philosophy. The programme
leads to a Master of Social Sciences or Master of Arts and it qualifies
graduates for doctoral level studies. The Master's Degree Programme in
Cultural Policy is aimed at students who have obtained a Bachelor's Degree
in Social Sciences, e.g. Political Science, Sociology, Social Policy,
Philosophy, Geography, Administration Studies, Law, Media Studies.
Eligible applicants may also hold a Bachelor of Arts. Previous studies in
social sciences (preferably intermediate level studies) qualify those
holding a BA. The intake in 2013 is 20 students, application deadline is
15 February 2013.
