Description
For the year 2013 the International Journalists’ Programmes (IJP) are
offering the 13th year of their scholarship program for Eastern Europe.
Journalists from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and
other Commonwealth of Independent States countries can apply for this
fellowship.

Five German journalists have the opportunity to work during the months of
September-October at a medium in a Russian-and Polish-language media as a
guest editor. At the same time the scholarship program for journalists
from the CIS countries, and Poland is announced, who can apply for a
two-month stay in Germany.

The CIS countries are consisted of the official member states: Armenia,
Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Russia, Tajikistan and
Uzbekistan; plus Ukraine and Turkmenistan as unofficial member states.

The aim of the program is to give young journalists an idea of the
politics, economy, culture and social life of Germany, and give them an
opportunity to gain work experience in foreign newsrooms.

The fellowship begins in early October 2013 with a four-day introductory
session in Tbilisi. This is followed, in general, the eight-week stay in
the Eastern European and German media immediately. Fellows will intern in
German newsrooms and work as foreign correspondents covering events in
Germany for their countries’ media.

Participants will receive stipends of EUR3,900 (about US$5,300) each,
which will cover travel expenses, health insurance and accommodations.

Eligibility
Staff or freelance journalists ages 23 to 35 can participate in the
program. Applicants must have excellent knowledge of the German language.

Application
The application deadline is 15 April 2013. You must include in the
application:

a CV with passport photo
a letter of motivation
a journalistic report of the department head or chief editor (which also
supports the application, if the leave of absence for the duration of the
fellowship ensures and serves as proof of journalistic activity)
maximum of three written work samples, television and radio journalists
will be asked to work as a proof of no tape, but a list of outstanding
contributions
indicate a preference for certain countries and media, and an indication
of whether the application should apply to all or only to designated
countries.
The selection is made with the exclusion of those remedies by a jury based
on the application documents by 1 June.
