Ștefan RUSU: Practici artistice și transformarea sferei publice în contextul post-socialist.
Cazul Republicii Moldova și a orașului Chișinău.

Obiectivul prelegerii vor fi procesele de transformare urbană care sau produs în orașul Chișinău în perioada socialistă (între 1944-89), dar și în perioada independenței de după 92 care vor fi corelate cu aspectele transformării sferei publice investigate în cadrul proiectului CHIȘINĂU – Artă, Cercetare în Sfera Publică, realizat de Centrul KSAK în 2010. Un alt aspect important pe care îl vom discuta este formatul inter-disciplinar prin intermediul căruia au fost analizate discursurile politice și instituționale dominante ce au format societatea și peisajul urban în decursul istoriei recente. Pe lîngă aceste direcții de bază a proiectului vor fi prezentate practicile artistice a unor artiști vizuali din Moldova (Tatiana Fiodorova, Dumitru Oboroc, Ghenadie Popescu, etc.) și altora din contextul Est European (Joanna Raikovska/PL, Nomeda si Gediminas URBONAS/NL-LT, Rena RAEDLE si Vladan JEREMIC, DE-SRB, Indre KLIMAITE/LT)

Ștefan RUSU: Practica artistică ca dispozitiv de re-imaginare a contextului social.

Prelegerea va fi axată pe practici artistice și curatoriale de activare a spațiului public. În special va fi vorba de proiectul Spații în Mișcare realizat în 2014 la Dushanbe care a investigat statutul spațiilor publice și metode de activare prin intermediul practicilor artistice și sociale în contextul Asiei Centrale. Vom prezenta strategii și tactici de activare a spațiului public în condițiille regimurilor autoritare și a situației precare în care activează inițiativele și ong-urile din regiune.
Pe de altă parte vom vorbi de practici artistice, în speță vom prezenta practica lui Ștefan Rusu. Începînd cu 2006 Ștefan Rusu a dezvoltat o serie de proiecte-intervenții în spațiul public, printre care este replica unui apartament socialist (garsonieră) – Apartamentul Deschis produs în colaborare cu Asociația Oberliht care a fost activat în 2009 și care ține de crearea unei platforme de producție culturală și procesul de regenerare a spațiului public la Chișinău. O altă intervenție Block 89 a fost realizată în cadrul proiectului itinerant KNOT în microraionul Ursinov din Warsovia. Urmărind oarecum același traseu de activare a spațiului public din suburbia orașului Stockholm a fost realizat Balconul Flotant care dezbate problema segregării populației migratoare și gentrificării zonei de locuit din suburbia Husby, dar și cu chestiunea eradierii ‘fîșiei verzi” din planul de dezvoltare a zonei.

Ştefan RUSU (1964, Kâietu, Moldova) este artist vizual şi curator, actualmente stabilit la Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. Agenda sa artistică și curatorială este strâns legată de procesele și schimbările survenite în societățile post-socialiste după 1989. Între anii 2005-06 a urmat Programul Curatorial în cadrul Institutului de Artă Contemporană Stichting DE APPEL din Amsterdam, unde a co-produs proiectul “Mercury in Retrograde”. În 2010 a făcut o resedință artistică la Centre International d’Accueil et d’Echanges des Récollets, Paris unde a realizat proiectul – “Drifting Identity Station”, în cursul aceluiaș an urmează o resedință în SUA în cadrul programului ARTSLINK unde face o o cercetare și un schimb de experiență în cadrul programul curatorial de la California College of the Arts din San Francisco.
Transformări urbane și schimbările fundamentale survenite în sfera publică au stat la baza unui alt demers curatorial – CHIȘINĂU – Arta, Cercetare in Sfera Publică (2010) – o platformă trans-disciplinară de investigare a discursurilor instituționale și politice dominante care au modelat peisajul urban al orașului în decursul istoriei recente.
Printre proiectele sale notabile se număra “Apartamentul Deschis” – o replică la scara reală a unui apartament de tip socialist realizat la Chișinău (2009) în colaborare cu Asociatia Oberliht și “Block-89” (2010) în cadrul proiectului KNOT din Warsovia. Aceasta serie de interventii a continuat cu proiectul “Balconul Flotant” (2011) – o intervenție în cartierul residential Husby din Stokholm, care a abordat problema segregarii populației migrante, gentrificarea cartierului, laolaltă cu chestiunea privatizării “fâșiei verzi” din preajma cartierului ce urmează a fi radiată din țesutul urban.
În 2012 a participat la Bienala din Berlin (ediția 7), unde a prezentat “Reclaiming the City” – un documentar de investigație și o reflecție asupra schimbărilor socio-economice dramatice, transformărilor structurale pe care le-a suportat orașul după căderea zidului de la Berlin și a impactului proceselor de gentrificare asupra spațiului public.

Aproprierea prin artă a spațiului public este un program organizat de Asociația Oberliht în colaborare cu Centrul pentru Artă Contemporană, Chișinău [ksa:k] și Academia de Muzică, Teatru și Arte Plastice, Facultatea Arte Plastice, și este susținut de Fundația Culturală Europeană în cadrul proiectului Acțiune Colectivă pentru Bunurile Comune <http://www.culturalfoundation.eu/connected-action/>. Scopul acestui program este de a introduce noi module educaționale în sfera educației artistice din Moldova și de a familiariza publicul cu noile tendințe în artă din Moldova și din regiune.

Stefan RUSU: Art practices and the transformation of public sphere in the post-socialist context.
The case of the Republic of Moldova and the city of Chisinau.

The objective of this lecture will be the processes of urban transformation which took place in the city of Chisinau in the socialist period (between 1944-1989), but also in the period of independence after 92 that will be correlated with the aspects of the transformation of public sphere investigated as part of project CHISINAU – Art, Research in the Public Sphere realized by KSAK Center in 2010. Another important aspect that we will discuss is the interdisciplinary format through which there have been analyzed the dominating political and institutional discourses that shaped the society and the urban scape in the recent history. Beside these basic directions of the project, there will be presented the artistic practices of some visual artists from Moldova (Tatiana Fiodorova, Dumitru Oboroc, Ghenadie Popescu etc.) and others within the Eastern-European context (Joanna Raikovska/PL, Nomeda and Gediminas URBONAS/NL-LT, Rena RAEDLE and Vadan JEREMIC, DE-SRB, Indre KLIMAITE/LT).

Stefan RUSU: Artistic practice as device for re-imagining the social context.

The lecture will be focused on curator and artistic practices for activating the public space. This would especially include the project Spaces in Motion organized in 2014 in Dushanbe, which investigated the status of public spaces and the method of activation through artistic and social practices within the context of Central Asia. We will present strategies and tactics of activation of the public space under the conditions of authoritarian regimes and the precarious conditions in which the NGOs in the region activate.
On the other hand we will speak about artistic practices, especially we will present Stefan Rusu’s practice. Starting with 2008, Stefan Rusu developed a series of projects-interventions in the public space, among which is the replica of a socialist apartment (one-room flat) – the Open Apartment, produced in collaboration with Oberliht Association, which was activated in 2009 and is part of the creation of a platform for cultural productions and the process of regeneration of the public space in Chisinau.
Another intervention, Block 89, has been realized as part of itinerary project KNOT in the Ursinov microdistrict in Warsaw. Somehow following the same path of activating the public space in the suburb of the city of Stockholm has been realized the Floating Balcony, which tackled the issue of the segregation of migratory population and the gentrification of the residential area in the Husby suburb, and also the question of erasing the “green line” from the development plan of the area.

Stefan RUSU (b. 1964 in Kâietu, Moldova) is a visual artist, curator, editor, and filmmaker, currently based in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. His artistic/curatorial agenda is geared towards the processes of transformation and changes in post-socialist societies after 1989. In 2005-2006 he attended the Curatorial Training Program at De Appel art center from Amsterdam where he co-curated Mercury in Retrograde. In the course of the same year (2010) he was in residence at Centre International d’Accueil et d’Echanges des Récollets, Paris where he realised a curatorial research project – Drifting Identity Station. The same year he was awarded a CEC Artslink Fellowship and completed the residence at the Graduate Program in Curatorial Practice of the California College of the Arts, San Francisco.
Urban transformations and the changes occurred in the public sphere where the subjects of his other curatorial endeavour – CHIȘINĂU – Art, Research in the Public Sphere (2010) – a cross-disciplinary platform that investigated the dominant institutional and political discourses that have shaped the society and the urban landscape of town in the course of its recent history.
Beginning with 2009 he developed a number of interventions in the public space, among which is Flat Space – a functional replica of socialist apartment commissioned by Oberliht Young Artists Association from Chisinau and Block 89(2010) – a site-specific intervention realised in the frame of KNOT Project in Ursinov district from Warsaw. Following this path he designed Floating Balcony (2011) – an intervention in Husby district from Stockholm that deals with the segregation of the migrant population, gentrification of the Husby housing area and a threat of privatising “green line” and its following erasure from the urban fabric.
In 2012 participated in the 7th Berlin Biennial with Reclaiming the City – an investigative documentary, which reflects on dramatic social-economic structural changes, the physical transformation of the city following the dismantling of Berlin wall and the impact of gentrification processes on public space.

Appropriation of public space through art is a program organized by Oberliht Association in collaboration with Contemporary Art Centre from Chisinau and Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts, with the support of European Cultural Foundation in the frame of Connected Action for the Commons <http://www.culturalfoundation.eu/connected-action/>project. The program aims to introduce new educational modules in the artistic education curricula and to familiarize the publics with new tendencies in art from Moldova and from the region.
