*The Coalition of the Independent Cultural Sector from the Republic of

<http://oberliht.org/> are inviting you to the *SCA2023 / Alternative
Cultural Spaces* <https://zilelespatiuluipublic.wordpress.com/sca-2023/> events
program. Its goal is to make more visible and popular the independent
cultural organizations and initiatives, that develop an artistic and
theoretical discourse, alternative to the dominant one, contributing to the
promotion of freedom of expression and civic education through arts and
dialogue, as well as to diversifying the cultural life in the Republic of
Moldova.

Now in its second edition, *SCA2023* activates a number of *36* spaces from
different localities of Moldova, united in a network of alternative
cultural spaces and project spaces. Diverse in the form and content they
produce, the context in which they operate, the type of ownership and model
of governance, they offer the general public access to experimental art
forms, contemporary art, socially engaged art, and community art. They
include public squares and green spaces, an improvised parking lot next to
an urban garden, an out of use train station and library, a beauty salon, a
bar, a youth center, a regional museum, houses of culture and exhibition
spaces located in the basements or on the roof of art schools, cultural
centers and artist-run spaces and creative workshops.

This year’s program includes over *40* cultural activities that will take
place during two consecutive weekends: between *23-25 June, 2023* in the
localities of Balti, Cahul, Dubasari, Gura Galbenei, Hirtop, Naslavcea,
Puhaceni, and Volintiri and between *29 June – 2 July, 2023* in Chisinau,
Durlesti and Truseni. Organized at the initiative of independent cultural
organizations, with the participation of local artists, as well as from
Switzerland, Mexico, Romania and Ukraine, who will exhibit their own works
or those of the communities they have collaborated with, the events program
aims to initiate a dialogue with professionals in the sphere of culture and
with the general public through exhibitions, art installations, film
screenings, creative workshops, round tables, public space interventions,
performance art, concerts, and community parties.

As a platform, SCA aims to promote visions that are alternative to the
institutionalized and commercialized discourse in the sphere of culture,
thus giving a boost to the local cultural sphere and contributing to
redefining of the role of culture in society. As a response to the

*SCA2023* proposes a space for discussion and reflection on topics of
importance both for the cultural community and for the wider society, such
as self-organization, civic education through art, participative governance
of the cultural infrastructure, artistic mobility and the decentralisation
of culture, the role of culture in times of crisis, solidarity with the
Ukrainian people, and building viable long-term alternatives.
