>
>
> Political and poetical
>
>
> The organisers of the 14th Tallinn Print Triennal invite artists to
> address two themes: Political and Poetical, that may at first seem
> mutually antagonistic, but which are important (or essential) aspects of
> the graphic arts. Throughout their history the graphic arts have been
> employed in both the social/political and the personal/poetic spheres.
> They have offered the mechanism for the mass promotion of political ideas
> and created conditions in which personal and liberal self-expression can
> flourish.
>
> But are these themes mutually exclusive? Can the political be poetic and
> visa versa? And if these barriers can be crossed, what are the
> consequences of intermingling their themes? Is print-based political
> propaganda a form of romantic self-deception, microscopic resistance,
> serious political engagement, poetic self-expression or all of these
> rolled together? What is the impact of a poetically-clad political
> message? What new tricks can the art of printing bring to the enduring
> themes of politics and poetry?
