The III International Contest of Musical Composition, organised by the
University of Zaragoza, Spain is announced. It is open to composers of
Chamber Music of all ages and nationalities. 1st prize: 3.500 Euros.

III INTERNATIONAL CONTEST OF MUSICAL COMPOSITION
UNIVERSITY OF ZARAGOZA

The Area of Cultural Activities of the Dpt. of Social and Cultural
Affaires and Institutional Relations of the University of Zaragoza, wants
to announce the regulations for the III International Contest of Musical
Composition ‘University of Zaragoza’ with the purpose of stimulating
creation in the domain of contemporary music.

Regulations

1. The contest is open to musicians of all nationalities with no age
restrictions.

2. Each competitor can submit only one work with the following
characteristics:

-The composition presented must be unpublished, never performed in public,
broadcast and/or awarded a prize in other competitions.

-The composition submitted for the competition must use, maximum, the
instruments in the list below, and no less than ten of these instruments.
Among these ten instruments, at least, three of them must be instruments
of wind-wood and three other string instruments:

- 1 Flute (including piccolo and G flute)
- 1 Oboe (including English horn)
- 1 Clarinet (including Bass clarinet and E-flat clarinet)
- 1 Bassoon
- 1 Horn
- 1 Trumpet
- 1 Trombone
- 1 Percusionist
- 1 Piano
- 1 Harp
- 2 Violins
- 1 Viola
- 1 Cello
- 1 Doublebass

The work must last between 12 and 15 minutes.
No parts for soloist will be admitted within the works.
3. Competitors must submit five anonymous copies of their composition.
They must be marked using a motto or pseudonym, and this must also be
written on a sealed envelope. This envelope must contain the following
documents:

-fotocopy of passport
-postal address and/or e-mail address
-telephone number
-brief cv of competitor

4. The scores and the enclosed documents must be sent or presented by 27th
April 2007 (certified by the post office stamp) to the following address:

5. The members of the jury will be selected by the Dpt. of Social and
Cultural Affaires and Institutional Relations of the University of
Zaragoza amongst musicians of national and international prestige. This
jury will complete with its experience and opinion the possible omissions
or doubts that could arise in the selection process. The jury reserves the
right not to award the prize if no work is deemed to be worthy. The
decisions taken by the jury shall be final.

6. The winner will be awarded a prize of 3.500 €. There will be a second
prize awarded 1.500 €. This prize is subjected to deductions according to
Law.

7. The winning pieces will be interpreted, as part of the prize, by the
Chamber Orchestra of the Auditorium of Zaragoza (Grupo Enigma) within the
domain of the Season of Concerts 2007-2008.

8. In the different editions, recordings or public performances of the
winning works should be mentioned ‘III Concurso Internacional de
Composición Musical’.

9. The author must send when requested, free of charge, the instrumental
parts of the winning work for its consequent performance and/or recording
by the Chamber Orchestra of the Auditorium of Zaragoza (Grupo Enigma), as
well as a copy of the scores for the archives of the University of
Zaragoza.

10. The winners will authorise the University of Zaragoza to record,
reproduce and broadcast the presented piece.

11. Once the contest is concluded, the original works will be destroyed.

12. The application to take part in and to present works for the
competition implies full acceptance of the present regulations.

III CONCURSO INTERNACIONAL DE COMPOSICION MUSICAL “UNIVERSIDAD DE ZARAGOZA”

El Área de Actividades Culturales del Vicerrectorado de Proyección Social
y Cultural y Relaciones Institucionales de la Universidad de Zaragoza
convoca el III Concurso Internacional de Composición Musical “Universidad
de Zaragoza”, con el objetivo de estimular la creación contemporánea en el
ámbito de la música y con el fin de difundir el interés hacia cualquier
forma de manifestación artística, con arreglo a las siguientes bases:

BASES

1- El concurso está abierto a compositores de todas las nacionalidades,
sin límite de edad.

REQUISITOS

2- Cada compositor podrá presentar una única obra original que deberá
responder a las siguientes características:

- La obra deberá ser inédita, no estrenada ni registrada por ningún medio
de reproducción mecánica antes del fallo del jurado.

- La obra deberá ser escrita, como máximo, para los instrumentos que
figuran en la siguiente plantilla y, como mínimo, para un número no
inferior a diez instrumentos entre los cuales deberán figurar, al menos,
tres instrumentos de viento-madera y tres instrumentos de cuerda frotada

- 1 Flauta (también Flautín y Flauta en sol)
- 1 Oboe (también Corno Inglés)
- 1 Clarinete (también Clarinete Bajo y Clarinete en mi bemol)
- 1 Fagot (también Contrafagot)
- 1Trompa
- 1 Trompeta
- 1 Trombón
- 1 Percusionista
- 1 Piano
- 1 Arpa
- 2 Violines
- 1 Viola
- 1 Violoncello
- 1 Contrabajo

- Las obras durarán entre 12 y 15 minutos.
- No se admitirán partes para solista dentro de las obras.

PRESENTACIÓN Y ENVÍO DE OBRAS

3- La obra no estará firmada, por lo que llevará un lema que figure
también, junto al título de la obra, en el exterior de un sobre cerrado
que contenga el DNI o pasaporte, dirección y teléfono, así como un breve
curriculum del autor.

Será imprescindible la presentación de cinco ejemplares obtenidos por
cualquier procedimiento manual o mecánico.

4- El plazo de recepción de las obras concluirá el 27 de abril de 2007,
considerándose la fecha del matasellos, en caso de ser remitida por
correo, como la de recepción.

Toda la documentación deberá ser presentada o enviada a:

SELECCIÓN DE OBRAS Y PREMIOS

5- El jurado será elegido por el Vicerrectorado de Proyección Social y
Cultural y Relaciones Institucionales de la Universidad de Zaragoza, entre
miembros de reconocido prestigio en el ámbito de la música. Dicho jurado
completará con su criterio las omisiones o dudas que pudiera plantear la
interpretación de estas bases y su fallo será inapelable.

6- Se establecen un Primer Premio y un Accésit cuya dotación será de 3.500
euros para el Primer Premio y 1.500 euros para el Accésit.
Este premio está sujeto a la retención del IRPF conforme establece la
legislación vigente.

7- En las ediciones, ejecuciones, grabaciones, etc., de las obras
premiadas figurará la mención “III CONCURSO INTERNACIONAL DE COMPOSICIÓN
MUSICAL UNIVERSIDAD DE ZARAGOZA“.

8- El autor o autores premiados, por su parte, estarán obligados a
facilitar gratuitamente el correspondiente material escrito para la
ejecución y grabación, en su caso, de la obra, así como la entrega de una
copia de la partitura, que quedará en poder de la Universidad de Zaragoza.

9- En el momento de su primera interpretación por la Orquesta de Cámara
del Auditorio de Zaragoza (Grupo Enigma) se requerirá a los ganadores para
que entreguen, con el tiempo que se convenga, las partituras necesarias
para su estreno. Dicho material estará exento de pagos de alquiler.

10- La Universidad de Zaragoza se reserva el derecho de realizar
posteriores interpretaciones, grabaciones o reproducciones en radio y
televisión de las partituras premiadas. Por tanto, los autores
galardonados manifestarán la cesión gratuita de los derechos de sus obras.

11- La obra u obras galardonadas, serán interpretadas por la Orquesta de
Cámara del Auditorio de Zaragoza (“Grupo Enigma”), dentro de su temporada
2007-2008.

12- El fallo del jurado se hará público a través de los medios de
comunicación. El jurado podrá declarar por unanimidad desierto el premio
del concurso si la calidad de las obras presentadas no se considerara
suficiente. Las decisiones del jurado serán inapelables.

13- Una vez concluido el concurso, se procederá a la destrucción de las
obras no premiadas.

ACEPTACIÓN DE BASES

14. La participación en este concurso implica la íntegra aceptación de las
presentes bases.
