> Eight women, from Yerevan and the Armenian diaspora, will read the creative nonfiction that they developed from their participation in an eight week writing workshop, sponsored by Utopiana, the Women’s Resource Center, and CEC Artslink.  The reading will take place at The Club, this Friday at 8 pm.  Admission is free.
> Participants include Nancy Agabian, Lara Aharonian, Lusine Davtyan, Byurakn Ishkhanyan, Gohar Khachatryan, Naira Pirumyan, Nushik Smbatyan, Laura Tashjian, and Meri Yeranosyan.

> The writers range from seasoned journalists to experimental novelists to young poets, all who experimented with the genre of creative nonfiction, i.e., writing based on individual observation and life experience.  During the eight week workshop, participants read women’s literature in translation, addressing such themes as the inheritance of trauma, memories of war, feelings about the body, and Armenian family dynamics.  Writing exercises were then structured around these themes and given to the group.  Each writer shared a response with the rest of the workshop, received feedback on it, and revised it for an anthology, Matnashoonch.   Along with introducing this dynamic book, the reading gives the public the opportunity to glimpse Armenian women’s lives at a time when their roles are changing but their voices aren’t often heard.
