CALL FOR CURATORIAL PROJECTS

lille3000 will pre-select 4 to 8 curators

In 2004, Lille, the biggest city in Northern France, was European Capital
of Culture.
Artists and residents transformed the city throughout the year and left
landmarks which will remain in the collective memory and in reality : the
Metamorphoses, and Mondes parallèles, the maisons folie, the festivals,
celebrations, music, dance, design, thatre, clubbing, opened air events...
and, above all, an amazing enthusiasm.

This dynamic is extended further by lille3000, encompassing the wider
world and questions obout the future, by making full use of the know-how
and the attributes of the Lille metropolitan area and surrounding region.

lille3000 explores various fields: the idea of a new urban lifestyle and
the construction of the city of tomorrow, notions of spirituality and
questions related to society and culture in general.

Each edition of lille3000 - several months long - represents an opening
out to the wider world, with an energy reminiscent of that of Lille 2004,
involving several towns and cities on a local and a Euro-regional scale.
In 2006, contemporary India provided the theme to a multicoloured season
of events called «Bombaysers de Lille» ; in 2009, it will focus on Europe
and the city of Istanbul, under the title EAST IS THE NEW WEST IS THE NEW
EAST.

The main exhibition performance centre of lille3000 is the Tri Postal, a
former postal sorting centre transformed into a contemporary art centre
over a surface of 6000m2 and dedicated to a large public.

lille3000 proposes the following call for project for 2009:

Step 1

Lille3000 has decided 2009 main exhibition to make a call for project with
several curators involved. There five curators will be responsible for a
part of the exhibition on the first floor of the Tri Postal (an exhibition
dedicated to the city of Istanbul will take place on the second floor).
The topic of the exhibition will be the invisible borders of Europe.

Curators will have possibilities to various topics:
- artistic scene in Eastern Europe, 20 years after the fall of the Berlin
wall
- invisible borders of Europe
-

Each curator will get more or less 400m2 for his/her exhibition. During
the 2009 edition it would also be possible for you to present a part of
your project in other places in Lille and especially in outdoor public
spaces. And after the event, there would be different possibilities to
tour the project, entirely.

Selected curators that will be have to present artists from different
artistic fields (plastic art, design, architecture, stylisme
). The
artworks have to show the contemporary aspect of creation in Europe
(mainly countries that have joined the EU since 2004).

Opening of the call for projects: end of july 2007
Project deadline: 21th september 2007
You can send your project by email or regular mail.

To assess your proposal we need a 5 page presentation document: 2 pages
with your artistic development (500 words in english or french) and 3
pages of images about artists that you would like to present.

Step 2

lille3000 will pre-select 4 to 8 curators who will be invited to come to
Lille in automn 2007 and make a first spotting in the Tri Postal and in
other places in the city.

After this visit, lille3000 will invite the pre-selected curators to
submit a more developed proposal in a summary pre project that will paid
up to 1000€. It will include additional material like catalogues, DVDs and
short CVs of people participating in this project. You will receive fees
for that work.

At this step, lille3000 keeps the right to cancel or to confirm the
collaboration. If your project is selected, you will have to present a
final folder to lille3000 on the biggin or mid December 2007. You will be
informed about the definitive result via email at the end of december
2007. lille3000 commits not to use the result of your work without your
agreement.
