IN THE PALACE calls for participants for the "Say: Action" workshops.
“Say:Action” - Educational Audiovisual Workshop constitutes an action of
informal education in the field of cinema art and audiovisual culture
with the participation of young people from different countries. Through
a training scheme which includes applied workshops and masterclasses,
young participants use and creatively experiment with the new
audiovisual media, while through cooperation and intercultural
contribution they document, edit and finally create a unique audiovisual
product, the fruit of work of the educational audiovisual workshop. With
this collective action of non-formal learning and training, young people
develop their capacities and expertise in the area of their professional
or amateur interest, in a multi-cultural environment of lifelong
learning, which fulfills and promotes cooperation on an international
level.

The course *"Pitching and Development project"* will be lead by *Barry
Hanson*
The week’s course will deal with some of the qualities a Film maker
needs to develop his/her projects in the international marketplace. It
will include the ability to write an original dramatic film treatment,
as well as improving confidence in expressing a movie idea to a
potential financier/distributor/T.V. Executive. There will also be
discussions on development, financing, and marketing.
Specifically, these few days will involve the Filmmaker pitching his/her
treatments to a member of the industry present at the Festival, who will
select 4 projects out of the 12. This will result in 4 scenes of not
more that 3 minutes being written from the selected treatments and
realised by the filmmakers, who will all work on the selected scenes as
a crew. These scenes will be shown at the end of the Festival.
For this to be possible, it’s necessary for the treatments to be written
in English and not longer than 3 pages of A4 paper. They should be sent
by email two weeks before the Festival commences. Also Filmmakers
should prepare their ‘pitches’ before the Festival.
12 participants will have theory lessons and practice, and at the end
they will present their audio-visual creation.
Day 1. Morning. A discussion on the elements of a movie treatment.
Also a workshop on the most important scene in the film treatments.
Some examples of the ‘obligatory’ or ‘turning point’ scene will be shown
in the workshop. Following this contributors will pitch their ideas to
each other. It would be helpful if the participants could have seen
Roman Polanski’s ‘Chinatown’,prior to this session.
Day 2. Morning. Pitching the idea for real to an industry executive
from the Festival, who will chose 4 ideas to go forward for production.
Work on the 4 ‘turning point’ scenes to begin
Day3. Morning. Contributors to assemble to ‘crew up’ to make to make
the 4 chosen scenes.
Day4. Chosen scenes to be shot, edited & dubbed.
Day5/6. Showing of the edited scenes. Discussion and Celebration. The
scenes will not be in competition with either the other film makers or
entered in any part of the Festival.
