The main spoken language is Romanian. > > HOW CAN I GET THERE ? There are direct train services between Moldova and Byelarus, Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, Russia, Ukraine. Similarly, there are direct bus (coach) connections between Moldova and Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Ukraine. A range of countries including many of those named above offer direct connections to Chisinau international airport. In addition to that, there are direct flights from Austria, England, Greece, Hungary, Israel, Lithuania and Turkey. Potential volunteers from Bulgaria, Georgia and Turkey might also conside

 uth centre at Razeni, 35 km south of Chisinau. The village comprises a public park, which in recent years has been neglected, people cutting down trees and scattering litter. The project aims to reclaim the park as a public space for relaxing in nature and for hosting community events in the future. Work: Cleaning and fencing of the park territory, setting up of waste-bins and benches. As the park will disappear if further neglected, informing the public will be an important activity. > Study & Leisure time: Volunteers will spend the early evenings acquainting themselves with rural life and traditions, with particular emphasis on the situation of youth. At the end of the camp, a celebration will be organised at the park, raising public awareness. Excursions and participation in the national Independence Day in Chisinau, the state capital, will acquaint the volunteers with Moldovan history and culture. Volunteers are encouraged to bring information about their own countries, 
 photos, music, games, etc. Participants are asked to contribute 10 Euro towards the costs of organizing, which is to be paid upon arrival.> Accommodation: All participants will be accommodated in a building close to the park in the village. Meals will be prepared by groups of 3 participants each day. > Remarks: Since 2007, entering Moldova requires NO VISA anymore from either EU- or CIS-member states passport holders. Motivation form required: All volunteers are asked to write a short text about their interest in this project and their expectations. Age 21-42. Applications of people above this age are welcome. > > INTRODUCTION TO "ECO-RAZENI"> "Eco-Razeni" was established in 1999 by students from a village south of Chisinau, wishing to improve the conditions especially of young people, the prime victims of the economic decline following the end of the Soviet Union. There is large emigration, poverty, and a high level of unemployment in the community. The NGO has from the sta
 rt worked in various areas, stretching from environmental-based initiatives to the running of seminars and computer courses. Since 2007 the organisation has its own office, situated in the basement of the local school, including rooms for seminars and presentations. The target groups of the information centre are young citizens of the Razeni village - almost 1500 children and youth, including young families and youngsters with few opportunities; the total population of the village currently comprises 7000 inhabitants, of which youths between 14 and 28 years of age comprise roughly 2500. The centre aims to provide information and to develop professional skills, at the same time it wants to be a place for using the spare time of youth in a positive kind of way. In the future the centre wants to assist members of the youth community to find and create working possibilities locally; Razeni having a strong agricultural base with an agricultural store in the centre of the village.
  Additionally, each day, approximately 30 children and youth visit the centre. In the future a library is being planed, with books ranging from Human rights, prevention of human trafficking, sexually transmitted infections to family planning, periodicals, etc. "Eco-Razeni" has 21 volunteers (age between 14 - 18) who are engaged in community work and hold seminars regarding problems and youth in the community. > > eMail-contact for ERZ01: workcamp.ecorazeni la gmail.com> > > Country Information:> > We are happy to introduce you to what is Europe's least known country, slightly bigger than Belgium, wedged between Romania and Ukraine, and with a population of around 3 million people. Moldova was subdued by the Ottomans before it became a province of the Russian Empire in 1812. It was connected to Romania in 1918, only to be forcefully incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1944, sharing by and large the same destiny as the Baltic States (i.e. deporting of its elites to Siberia, eng

Since independence in 1991, at least a quarter of the population has had to migrate in search of work, making Moldova the European state with the highest percentage of nationals employed abroad. The current situation of the majority of the population is giving truth to the statistics that have rated Moldova as the poorest nation in the whole of Europe for many years; with run-down villages settled mainly by old people - with many pensions not reaching above 30 Euro for 40 years of work - and children, who have many times not seen their parents - many of whom have to live illegally abroad - for up to five years or longer. With neighbouring Romania having become an EU-member in January 2007 and the (only partially positive) impact of Moldovans returning from abroad, the nation might develop a perspective for a brighter future; for the first time since 1991, birth rates have recently begun to go up again. The young, European influenced gener
 ation is starting to leave its mark, voting in 2007 the youngest mayor (28 years) of any European state capital city - Moldova's Chisinau (700.000 inhabitants) - into office. Since 2001, and with very little vision, the communist party is again in power, largely relying on abuse of power - including censorship of the media - having lost more than 100 cases in lawsuits started by its own population at the International Court for Human Rights. In 1991, the most eastern parts of the country declared themselves the 'Independent Republic of Transnistria', which remains unrecognized on any level internationally, but is supported heavily by Russia, occupying this way territory of a sovereign country and defying any pleas for democratic elections for the last 17 years. Most Moldovans speak Romanian as their mother tongue, but some speak Russian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian, Gagauzian or Romani, demonstrating the ethnic diversity existing in the country. Moldovan economy is based largely on
  agriculture (up to 40 % of domestic employment), being famous for its wine production, and appropriately dominated by a gently rolling landscape and plains. While there is a long-term perspective of Moldova's integration into the EU within the next 10 years, at the moment one of the main interests for visitors from abroad is the ongoing debate around Moldovan identity, fuelled by both Romanian and Slavic influences and its own distinctiveness, making Moldova certainly one of the more interesting countries in Europe to have a look at in more detail.> > -- > Asociaţia obştească "Eco-Răzeni"> Republica Moldova, r.
