Open Society Institute – Cultural Processes and Transcultural Influences
in Central Asia

The Open Society Institute has published a report by Sergey Abashin
entitled Cultural Processes and Transcultural Influences in Contemporary
Central Asia. The document provides an overview of the state of cultural
affairs in Central Asian societies after independence and describes
current tendencies which define long-term, local cultural processes and
transcultural influences, addressing issues such as nation-building,
cultural production, the interaction of isolationism and globalisation
processes and Islamisation. The report is available in English and Russian
