7-day camp of fine arts (Art Camp)

What is the International Fine Arts Symposium Forma Viva? It is an
international meeting of artists, including both art students and
established artists. Through workshops, lectures, discussions and
exhibitions it creates intergenerational ties and establishes a dialogue
with the wider public. The International Fine Arts Symposium Forma Viva
Maribor is part of the Lent Festival.

When: June 27th to July 3rd 2011

Who: students and graduates of European art schools, colleges and academies

Languages: Slovene, English

Subject: The Forest (thinking like a forest)
Title: “Invitation for a walk”
Central idea: Be creative and think ecologically!
Main issues: How to contemplate the forest with the means of logic and the
language of art? How to promote the aesthetic and ethical perception of
nature, while at the same time maintaining a dialogue with the social
tendency towards urbanity?
Locations to get inspiration from: Maribor with its cultural,
architectural and other local features Times of events and activities:
every day between 4 and 8 pm (sometimes also out of these times)
Location: the City Park

Categories / possible fields of activity:

a/ creating two-dimensional art using different techniques (painting,
drawing, printmaking)

b/ three-dimensional art: sculpture, creation of useable products (toys,
unique objects), spatial art (sculpture installations, landscape design)

Programme:

Creating art, workshops, discussions and much more – all in relation to
the subject of The Forest in a broad, also symbolic sense. Special
emphasis on the dimensions of consciousness (senses, feelings, fantasies,
intuitions...).

On the basis of this call for applications, the organiser pledges to
provide or prepare the following:

1. basic materials
Basic materials for both categories (two- and three-dimensional art) will
be provided, including different kinds of paper, cardboard, woven fabrics,
wooden and metallic plates, canvases, paints, glues and wood. Since we
emphasise imaginative attitudes towards materials, we will also provide
other, different materials at certain points around the camp, including
used or recycled products (old clothes, toys, discarded packaging and
wooden planks). Such resources can be an interesting incentive leading
towards new creative approaches. We would also like to appeal to the
participants themselves to show self-initiative in securing useful
materials and tools for the creation of their works.

2. accommodation (including meals) during the International Fine Arts
Symposium Forma Viva

3. an exhibition: after the camp, the works created by the participants of
the International Fine Arts Symposium Forma Viva Maribor 2011 will be put
on display for one week

4. a publication including accompanying texts, short presentations of the
participants and their concepts as well as photos of the works created at
the International Fine Arts Symposium Forma Viva Maribor 2011

Please note: all travel expenses are borne by the participants themselves.

Awards: 3 awards will be handed out:
1st award / independent exhibition in one of Maribor’s art galleries
2nd award / 5-day holiday package for 2 persons
3rd award / 3-day holiday package for 2 persons

4.Clearly defined category / field of activity: a or b
5. Information on the work’s concept, which has to be in relation with the
symposium’s subject:
a/ short written summary (not more than 20 lines)
b/ preliminary sketch (drawing, photography, model)
c/ basic materials
References / CV (places of study, notable presentations or works created
in the last 2 years)

Please send the required materials in printed or digital form (DVD, CD) to
the address below.

>From the received applications meeting the aforementioned requirements 20
authors will be chosen.
You will be notified of our final selection by May 15th 2011 at the latest.
