Master's Degree in Cultural Policy

The Master's Degree Programme in Cultural Policy is a study programme
based on social sciences and connected to many disciplines via teaching
and research both in Finland and abroad. The programme provides students
with knowledge of and critical insights into the socio-cultural, political
and scientific challenges of analyzing cultural policy and management.
Students become professionals and specialists in the field of cultural
policy research and administration.

The Unit of Cultural Policy at the University of Jyväskylä plays a vital
role in the ongoing evolution of cultural policy research and in the
global cultural policy research community.

The key themes of the Master's Degree Programme in Cultural Policy (120
ECTS) are: theory and history of cultural policy; cultural policy actors,
instruments and impacts; international and transnational cultural policy;
multiculturalism, minorities and cultural rights issues; cultural
democracy and the politics of participation; new technologies and the
challenges of authorship and copyright; media policies; cultural economy
and creative industries; cultural production and management of creative
processes.
A successful completion of the programme results in a Master of Social
Sciences degree, and it qualifies graduates for doctoral-level studies.
The language of instruction is English. The Master's Degree Programme in
Cultural Policy is intended for students who have acquired a bachelor's
degree in an accredited university or college. Preference will be given to
students with a major in social sciences, e.g. Political Science,
Sociology, Social and Public Policy, Philosophy and Aesthetics,
Administration Studies, Law or Media Studies. Eligible applicants may also
hold a Bachelor of Arts degree.
