CAPTURING A MOMENT

Polish – Hungarian – Moldovan contemporary art exhibition in LATARKA

Opening on May 31th at 7pm

Gruppo Tökmag (HU), Ramin MAZUR (MD), Ghenadie POPESCU (MD), Dominik
RITSZEL (PL), SOCIÉTÉ RÉALISTE (FR/HU)

Looking at the works of the Moldova based contemporary artists or observing
the exhibitions presented by Moldovan contemporary art institutions we can
see a tendency of the documentation of present context. The gesture of
documentation goes beyond mere capturing the here and now or recording a
phenomenon. The artists observe, discover and investigate the subject.
While trying to define their relation to it, they assign their own position
and reflect on those feelings, sensations and memories that are triggered
by knowing the subject. Using documentation as an artistic practice they
make an attempt to grasp the process of getting acquainted with the
subject. By documenting it they try to translate, interpret and shape the
result of their investigation and to delineate their relations to the
subject.
The exhibition entitled Capturing the moment presents different artistic
documentations of the same subject: the Republic of Moldova, a country
situated on the borderline of Eastern Europe and Russia. Through the works
the silhouette of this peculiar country appears, their inhabitants start to
take shape, the ambiance of the place surrounds us, and we get an insight
into its present and recent past. On the other hand, the works can be
regarded as the artists’ personal statements, which talk about their
relation and longer or shorter acquaintance to Moldova.
