Aerowaves is the international strand of Resolution!, The Place’s annual,
new year open season for shorter dance works. Ten works from across Europe
perform once alongside their British counterparts as part of a triple
bill.

Aerowaves is a Europe-wide project started in 1997, which brings together
dance specialists from 32 countries to look at the work of young
choreographers. For the last ten years this has resulted in ten
performance opportunities at The Place, London as part of the Resolution!
festival. This year, we are happy to announce that there will also be
three performance opportunities in July/August 2008 at Operaestate
Festival Veneto Bassano del Grappa, Italy.

Who is it for?
It’s for emerging choreographers and companies who have not yet done much
touring abroad.

How does it work?
You complete an online application and send to London 2 identical DVDs of
the work you wish to present by Monday 24 September 2007. The Aerowaves
partners meet to watch the DVDs in late October and help chose work for
each festival. The performance opportunities in the UK and Italy are
confirmed, however, each year other informal opportunities arise and work
has been presented through Aerowaves in the majority of the countries
represented at the meeting.

I performed in Aerowaves with my solo ‘Love is Fàstic’ and it was the first
significant step of my international career. As a result of performing in
London, I went onto perform in a number of important festivals. It also
got my work seen by a lot of European presenters. Aerowaves is without
doubt one of the best, if not the best, platforms for new dance work in
Europe.

Resolution! is The Place’s New Year open season for shorter dance works.
One hundred companies are presented over six weeks in nightly changing
triple bills. Aerowaves is a series within Resolution! that makes it
possible for artists from elsewhere in Europe to show their work for the
first time in London. Ten works are presented, once only on either Friday
or Saturday alongside two companies from the UK.

Eligibility for Aerowaves
- Work made in geographical Europe, but not in the UK
- Work between 15 and 40 minutes duration
- Work that can share a triple bill, with simple technical requirements (each
company has 3 hours technical time)
- Work by postgraduate but not undergraduate students
- Submission of 2 identical DVDs of the work to be presented
- Artists presenting their work in London for the first time
- Previously unsuccessful Aerowaves applicants with a different work
- Applications that reach London not later than Monday 24 September 2007

How to apply for Aerowaves
- Complete the online Aerowaves application form
- Post 2 identical DVDs of the piece you wish to present clearly marked
with your application number to: AEROWAVES, The Place, 17 Dukes Road
London, WC1H 9PY, UK
- Only one work may be submitted by each choreographer or company
- Applications must be received by Monday 24 September 2007

The DVDs should be a simple record of a public performance from beginning
to end, without cuts. Promotional DVDs are not acceptable, and neither are
DVDs of any piece other than that which you want to present in London.
Abridged works must be presented in that version on DVD.

Selection Process
- Receipt of your application will be acknowledged by email
- Short-listing by a meeting of Aerowaves partners will take place in
October,
followed by the selection of up to ten companies for London who will be
notified on Thursday 1 November 2007
- Companies selected for London will be offered agreed travel expenses,
shared hotel accommodation for up to three nights (dependent upon
performance date) and expenses for each company member
- The company will perform once in a triple bill on either a Friday
or a Saturday starting at 8pm

Detailed arrangements will be confirmed by contract following selection.
We are sorry that there can be no fee, but you will have a good time! The
Place regrets that it cannot enter into further correspondence to those
not selected for London.

Criteria for selection
Some of the qualities that guide us in our selection
- The work is propelled by a good idea
- Choreographed with an originality motivated by this idea
- Which has the confidence to omit the superfluous
- With a clear and sturdy structure
- Danced with clarity, verve, commitment and assurance
- That will look good presented under limited technical conditions
- From a company that has not toured much abroad
- But whose experience might be enriched through Aerowaves
- And that will have a future
