Alice Creischer and Andreas Siekmann, Ines Doujak, Judy Fox, Gülsün
Karamustafa, Dan and Lia Perjovschi, Dierk Schmidt, Zhao Liang – these
are only a few of the internationally distinguished artists who will be
directing a total of 25 workshops and courses lasting between two and six
weeks at the Salzburg International Summer Academy of Fine Arts. The three
locations – the mediaeval Hohensalzburg Fortress, the Alte Saline [old
salt factory] in Hallein and a romantic stone quarry on the Untersberg –
offer an ideal atmosphere for inspiration and artistic productivity, in
the oldest institution of its kind, founded in 1953 by Oskar Kokoschka.
The Summer Academy provides an opportunity for young talents, art
students, professional artists, teachers and ambitious amateurs to work
creatively in modern idioms. The image is open and international: every
year, the Academy welcomes some 400 participants of every age and over 40
nationalities.

The teaching programme offers the opportunity of exploring individual and
subjective, as well as socio-political themes. Traditional and
experimental techniques are taught at the highest level, contemporary
practices and discourses being a priority.

Classes include painting, drawing, graphic arts, sculpture, installation,
architecture, design, jewellery, stone sculpture, photography and media
art, film and video.

Throughout the six weeks, the Summer Academy provides an ambitious and
comprehensive accompanying programme of artists' presentation,
discussions, vernissages and exhibitions.
