The Black Sea Link Fellowships Program
New Europe College, Institute for Advanced Study in Bucharest, Romania

The Black Sea Link Fellowship Program, sponsored by the Volkswagen
Stiftung (Hannover, Germany), targets talented young researchers from
Moldova, Ukraine, Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as from other
regions around the Black Sea. The grants allow fellows to work on
projects of their choice while in residence in Bucharest. NEC welcomes a
wide variety of disciplines in the fields of the humanities and social
sciences.

The Fellowship consists of: a monthly stipend of 650 ¤ (tax free),
accommodation, international transportation to and from the home country
of the Fellows at the beginning and the end of the Fellowship. Fellows
are offered a one-month research trip abroad to an institution of their
choice (2,600 ¤ for transportation, accommodation, and per diem). In
addition, fellows can order literature for up to 500 ¤, to be used for
their research during the Fellowship, and included, at its end, in the
library of their home institution. NEC will assist Fellows in all
practical matters concerning travel, residence and research in Bucharest.

Duration: the academic year 2010-11: one term (5 months), from October
1, 2010 to February 28, 2011, or from March 1 to July 31, 2011; or a
full academic year (10 months) from October 1, 2010 to July 31, 2011.

The Black Sea Link Fellows will be included in the larger group of
colleagues from Romania and other countries, meeting for a weekly
seminar at the NEC. They are also expected to take part in other
scientific events organized by the New Europe College (seminars,
workshops, conferences, lectures held by foreign scholars, symposia,
etc.). The results of the Fellows' research shall be summarized in a
paper (in English, French, or German), to be published by the New Europe
College after the end of the Fellowship.

Eligibility: Applicants must be doctoral students, or hold a Ph.D.
title. Preference will be given to candidates below the age of 40.

Deadline: January 15, 2010
