Apply for the first Industry Meeting for the development of popular science
documentary cinema!
·         Are
you thinking of making popular science documentary?
·         Are
you familiar with creative filmmaking, yet you lack contacts with international
commissioning editors and funds specializing in popular science
documentary production?
·         Are
you interested in the essence of development, production, financing and
distribution of popular science documentaries internationally and
you think of participating in skill-oriented workshop?


Apply for the inaugural Industry Meeting held April 2013 in the frame of the
International festival of science documentary film Academia
Film Olomouc (AFO, www.afo.cz).The application deadline is January 31, 2013.
The core of
the Industry
Meeting is an intensive workshop focused on the development of
Central and East European popular science documentary cinema. The workshop’s
programme, designed for selected producers and directors, features a case study
of a particular, internationally successful documentary, individual meetings,
networking opportunities and consultations with representatives from major
foreign broadcasters, funds, festivals and experienced producers, who have been
active in the realm of popular science documentary production extensively.
Additional part of the workshop is intensive group work, led by international
experts, who identify strong and weak points of the selected documentary
projects and help them outline further production and distribution strategy.
Event dates:
 April 19, 2013 (arrival April 18 -
departure April 21). 
We look for:
·         Directors
and producers with detailed treatment of a popular science documentary project.
This is, however, not mandatory– the selection is open to all experienced
producers and directors who solemnly consider such a production, although they
might not have any project in progress.
·         Experienced
documentary professionals, as well as motivated emerging producers and
directors
What do we offer:
·         Selected
producers and directors take part in the workshop for free, there are no
participation fees
·         AFO
covers 3 nights of accommodation
·         AFO
covers travel expenses for both the producer and the director
Application: 
You may
apply in two ways:
1)      Send your application with the
developed project to dostalek at afo.cz(6 full pages max., including
synopsis, treatment, budget and financial plan, visuals are optional) no later
than January 31, 2013.
2)      Send a concise document introducing
the subject-matter (1-2 full pages), enclose a motivation letter explaining
your interest in popular science documentary. Both need to be sent to dostalek at afo.czno later than January 31, 2013.
Aim:
The aim of
the Industry Meeting and the workshop is to establish the very first Central
and East European platform designed to link local documentary professionals with
representatives of renowned broadcasters, funds and production houses that are
active in popular science film production. Industry Meeting aims to introduce
popular science industry to documentary producers and directors in the CEE
region and initiate the development of such documentary production with a
long-term perspective.
