Stop and Go: Nodes of Transition and Transformation
Public Seminar/ Workshop in Tallinn May 20th and 21stat Culture Cauldron [Kultuurikatel] and in Public Space
Its focus is on the routes, rhythms and emotions of transnational and urban mobility in Eastern Europe. The event includes presentations, the small thematic exhibition, and the mapping-practice related workshop. This interdisciplinary forum aims to bring under one roof social science researchers, artists and curators.

12.00 – Eve Kask (artist, assistant professor at the Estonian Academy of Arts): “A complete guide to Estonian bus stops”

13.15 – Terje Toomistu (curator, PhD student of ethnology at the University of Tartu): “The magic trip: travels and the imaginary elsewhere of the hippies in Soviet Estonia”
13.45 – Mindaugas Kavaliauskas (photographer): “AUTO -portraits & -landscapes”
14.15 – Emiliya Karaboeva (PhD, Department of Anthropology, Sofia University): “Networking Eurasia: Bulgarian international truck drivers and SOMAT during the Cold war“
14.45 – Patrick Laviolette (professor of social and cultural anthropology, Tallinn University): „Auto-stop, hitch and go: thumbing a ride in Western Europe”
15.15 – Kristel Rattus (Estonian National Museum): “ The Soviet era marked the beginning of car era: the role of cars in Soviet-time everyday-life in the Estonian SSR as reflected in the materials of Estonian National Museum’s correspondents archive”

16.00 – Tauri Tuvikene (researcher at the Centre for Landscape and Culture, Tallinn University) and Liis Vahter (MA student of Urban Governance, Tallinn University): “Traffic lights and pedestrian practices”
16.15 – Damiano Cerrone (SPIN Unit): „Studying morphologies, observing behaviours“ (presentation via Skype)
16.30 – Erki Kasemets (artist): „Pool elu prügimäel“ [Half life on the garbage dump]
17.00 – Tarmo Pikner (researcher at the Centre for Landscape and Culture, Tallinn University): “Spacing of time and affects on urban waterfront”
17.30 – Discussions and introduction to the next day workshop
