*how to think images politically? workshop by Florin Bobu & Andrei Trager*

Saturdays (October - November, 2024), 8 p.m. (if not indicated otherwise),

First session is scheduled for 26 of October, 2024

In order to answer the question “how to think images politically?” we’ll
avoid the expert’ views and address the task ourselves, in a collective and
amateur attempt to see, think and act together. We will depart from
Jean-Luc Godard’s famous articulation “The problem is not to make political
films, but to make films politically” and we will watch a series of
militant moving image productions that attempt to reflect critically on the
experience of intellectuals that want to produce social and political
change through their work. Over the course of several meetings we will talk
and argue about how Marxism became a radical form of seeing reality, and
the role that collective cinema played in it.

During the first session, we will watch Dziga Vertov Group’s film “British
Sounds”(1970) and engage in a follow up discussion between the participants.

Run in collaboration by Florin Bobu and Andrei Trager, this online workshop
is free and open to all participants.

*Florin Bobu *is an artist and curator living and working in Iasi, Romania.
He studied media art and sculpture (B.A., 2005) at ArtEZ/AKI, Akademie voor
Beeldende Kunst en Design (Enschede, The Netherlands) as well as Pharmacy
(M.S.) at “Grigore T. Popa” University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Iași.
Since 2012, he works as a curator for tranzit-ro / Iasi and for 1+1
association. In 2017 he completed CuratorLab 2016-2017 program, in the
frame of Konstfack - University of Arts, Crafts and Design (Stockholm,
Sweden) where he curated A Red Thread – A Guided Tour to Class Struggles
from Above and Below, a project by Nebojša Milikić at the Sweden’s History
Museum in Stockholm.

*Andrei Trager *is a cultural worker, lives in Chisinau, Republic of
Moldova. He is a documentary film director, a student of the directing
department of the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts in Chisinau.
Member of the publishing group "Drujba" in the Museum of Zemstvo, Chisinau.

În fiecare sâmbătă (octombrie - noiembrie 2024), de la ora 20:00 (dacă nu
este indicat altfel), online
Prima sesiune este programată pe data de 26 octombrie 2024, ora 20:00

Pentru a răspunde la întrebarea „cum să înțelegem imaginile politic?” vom
evita opiniile experților și ne vom adresa această temă nouă înșine, într-o
încercare colectivă a amatorilor de a vedea, gândi și acționa împreună. Vom
pleca de la celebra exprimare a lui Jean-Luc Godard „Problema nu este să
faci filme politice, ci să faci filme în mod politic” și vom urmări o serie
de producții video militante care încearcă să reflecte critic asupra
experienței intelectualilor care doresc să producă schimbări sociale și
politice prin munca lor. Pe parcursul mai multor întâlniri vom discuta și
dezbate modul în care marxismul a devenit o formă radicală de a vedea
realitatea și despre rolul pe care l-a jucat cinematograful colectiv în
aceasta.

În timpul primei sesiuni, vom urmări filmul “British Sounds” (1970)
realizat de Grupul Dziga Vertov și ulterioar, ne vom angaja într-o discuție
cu participanții.

Condus colaborativ de către Florin Bobu și Andrei Trager, acest workshop
online este gratuit și deschis tuturor participanților.
